Workflows for optical Microscopy. Here we will illustrate various methods in optical
microscopy which can be useful for the practising geologist and petrographer. Some of the topics
are image manipulations, stacking, creating mosaics (”panoramas”), background subtraction,
point-spread function and deconvolution. We will not discuss the standard methods used on a
polarizing microscope because we assume that the miscoscopist, geologist, petrographer is
conversant with these methods.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry. A book to explain the oil
industry. It is available as paperback from Amazon. If you want to read up quickly what oil and
gas exploration and production is about, or if you need to explain to a non-technical person
(e.g., lawyer, journalist, accountant) how this industry works, this is the book for you. It is
written for laymen and avoids all technical jargon and tries to explain why things are done the
way they are. Also good as a present for your non-technical colleagues.
